Carpet cleaning
Living and working in Sarasota, Longboat Key and Lakewood Ranch can take up a lot of your time, so who has time to worry about clean carpeting? Clean carpeting in your home or office not only makes it look clean but also make your home or office feel more warm and inviting.
Preventative Maintenance
Carpets act as a filter, trapping dust, dirt, gases, animal hair, and other soils. All carpet manufacturers agree on actions you can take between carpet cleanings to increase the life span of your carpet. IICRC states that 79% of soil in carpet is dry soil. Vacuuming is a key component to proper care and maintenance of carpet.
Preventative maintenance includes:
- Regular vacuuming
- Spot removal
- Pilating the carpet to prevent matting
- Moving furniture to change traffic patterns
- Using walk-off mats to limit the amount of soil tracked onto the carpet
Professional Cleaning
Our professional cleaning can address moderate and heavy soil conditions in your carpets. How often you’ll need professional cleaning depends on soil build-up, traffic, type and color of carpeting. A good rule of thumb would be to professionally clean your carpet every 12 months. The best advice is to clean carpets before they become totally saturated with soil. If you wait until carpets look really dirty, the carpets may never be restored to their former appearance. Dirt builds up in layers, and when a carpet looks dirty you are only seeing the dirt at the tips of the fibers. More dirt is hiding below the surface down near the base of the pile, causing damage to the carpet. When a carpet is saturated with dirt, the soil has penetrated crevices and has become firmly lodged.

Do You Have Mold In your Home?
6/2/2022 (Permalink)
Mold in the home
Living in Sarasota, Siesta Key, Longboat Key and Lakewood Ranch, there is always the possibility of mold. Confusion and misunderstanding surround the topic of mold and mold remediation. Some restoration businesses even make claims to remove all mold from a building. This is a fallacy. Mold spores occur naturally almost everywhere, both indoors and outdoors. These microscopic spores float along in the air and can enter a home or business through windows and HVAC systems. Sometimes we will refer out to another vendor to get testing done before and after SERVPRO® of North Sarasota remediates.
By testing for mold you can tell if there is an unhealthy level of spores in your house and find out if any allergies you might have are from mold or something else. Mold testing after removing mold can be useful after you've had mold removed from your home. Through testing you can make sure that the mold removal was a success.
There are 3 different testing methods: 1) indoor air quality to test for mold spores, 2) the AC/heating mold sampling tests the air from a forced air heating and air conditioning unit, and 3) surface mold sampling which test mold that is already growing on a surface.
SERVPRO of North Sarasota specializes in mold cleanup, remediation and restoration, in fact, it’s a cornerstone of our business. Our crews are highly trained remediation and restoration professionals that use specialized equipment and techniques to properly remediate your mold problem quickly and safely.
If You see signs of mold, call SERVPRO of North Sarasota 941-365-4614.

Kitchen Fires Can be disastrous
6/9/2021 (Permalink)
Kitchen Fire
Each year, from 2014 to 2016, fire departments in the United States responded to an estimated average of 188,800 cooking fires in residential buildings.
Cooking was, by far, the leading cause of all residential building fires and injuries.
Confined fires, generally smaller fires, accounted for 91 percent of residential building cooking fires.
In 83 percent of nonconfined cooking fires in residential buildings, the fires were limited to the object or room of fire origin.
The leading specific factor contributing to ignition in nonconfined cooking fires in residential buildings was unattended equipment (40 percent).
Smoke alarms and automatic extinguishing systems (AESs), 67 and 8 percent respectively, were present in nonconfined cooking fires in occupied residential buildings.
Home fires are preventable! The following are simple steps that each of us can take to prevent a tragedy.
- Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, or broiling food. If you leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, turn off the stove.
- Wear short, close-fitting or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking.
- Keep children away from cooking areas by enforcing a "kid-free zone" of 3 feet around the stove.
- Position barbecue grills at least 10 feet away from siding and deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- Reached more than 1.1 million children through preparedness programs.

Keep Your Pets Safe During Emergencies!!
1/22/2021 (Permalink)
Remember pets are part of the family too!!
Get a Kit of pet emergency supplies.Just as you do with your family’s emergency supply kit, think first about the basics for survival, particularly food and water.
Food: Keep at least three days of food in an airtight, waterproof container.
Water: Store at least three days of water specifically for your pets, in addition to water you need for yourself and your family.
Medicines and medical records: Keep an extra supply of medicines your pet takes on a regular basis in a waterproof container.
First aid kit: Talk to your veterinarian about what is most appropriate for your pet’s emergency medical needs. Most kits should include cotton bandage rolls, bandage tape and scissors; antibiotic ointment; flea and tick prevention; latex gloves, isopropyl alcohol and saline solution. Include a pet first aid reference book.
Collar with ID tag, harness or leash: Your pet should wear a collar with its rabies tag and identification at all times. Include a backup leash, collar and ID tag in your pet’s emergency supply kit.
Crate or other pet carrier: If you need to evacuate in an emergency situation take your pets and animals with you, provided that it is practical to do so.
A picture of you and your pet together: If you become separated from your pet during an emergency, a picture of you and your pet together will help you document ownership and allow others to assist you in identifying your pet. Include detailed information about species, breed, age, sex, color and distinguishing characteristics.
Familiar items: Put favorite toys, treats or bedding in your kit. Familiar items can help reduce stress for your pet.

“Mold Removal” vs. Mold Remediation
5/4/2020 (Permalink)
Allow SERVPRO North Sarasota to clean your space of mold!
What’s the Difference?
Since microscopic mold spores exist naturally almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors, removing all mold from a home or business is impossible. Many restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold. This is a fallacy. We understand mold and mold growth. SERVPRO of North Sarasota has the training and expertise to remediate the mold in your home or business.
Signs of Mold? Call Today – (941) 365-4614
Understanding Mold
When water intrudes into your property, mold growth can start in as little as 48 hours. Consider the following mold facts:
- Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
- Mold spores are microscopic, float along in the air, and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
- Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
- Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor, and that odor can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
- Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

Smoking is a leading cause of home fire deaths.
3/27/2019 (Permalink)
It is important for smokers to know the steps they can take to keep themselves and their families safe from fire. Put these fire safety messages into your own words when talking to people about smoking and fire safety on social media.
- Smoke outside. Many things in your home can catch on fire if they touch something hot like a cigarette or ashes. It is always safer to smoke outside.
- Put cigarettes out all the way. Do this every time. Don’t walk away from lit cigarettes and other smoking materials. Put water on the ashes and butts to make sure they are really out before you put them in the trash.
- Be alert. Do not smoke after taking medicine that makes you tired. You may not be able to prevent or escape from a fire if you are sleepy or have taken medicine that makes you tired.
- Never smoke around medical oxygen. Medical oxygen can explode if a flame or spark is near. Even if the oxygen is turned off, it can still catch on fire.
- Never smoke in bed. Mattresses and bedding can catch on fire easily. Do not smoke in bed because you might fall asleep with a lit cigarette.
- Put your cigarette out in an ashtray or bucket with sand. Use ashtrays with a wide base so they won’t tip over and start a fire.
